Inspiring local businesses to come together for a cause greater than them all – ending hunger in New London County.

Are you ready to join us?
This year marks the 11th annual Uniting for United Food Drive! The event was launched in 2015 by local organizers Dan Spellman and Cassandra Giovanni with the goal of bringing businesses together to combat hunger in New London County. Since then, it has become a highly anticipated annual tradition. The food drive will support the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center, which provides food to over 23,500 individuals (about the seating capacity of Madison Square Garden) each month through its 65 partners and five monthly mobile food pantries. We need your help to accomplish this lofty goal. How does it work? We’ll provide you with digital signage and social media post ideas to help you spread the word that you’re helping to end hunger. The event will include lots of great media exposure in local newspapers and on local radio stations. The event will run from May 4th– May 21st and collection will occur on Friday, May 22nd at Surplus Unlimited in Norwich, 363 W Main St, Norwich. While we have a list of specific food that is both healthy and in high-demand during this time of year, all non-perishable goods are welcome. Businesses will compete in three categories:
We will have an awards ceremony after the completion of the competition to celebrate all of your hard work. Why should you get involved?
• The Food Stays Within Our Communities: All of the funds raised and food collected remain within our community. Specifically, the event will benefit the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center, a program operated by United Way. Their Mobile Food Pantry Program delivers fresh food such as milk, meat, and veggies, along with traditional canned and boxed foods once a week in the areas we operate including Colchester, Groton, Jewett City, Norwich, New London, Salem, Stonington and Taftville. The Labor Food Center also helps to supply other local food pantries. We would love to have more meals available for families all year round. If you are interested in participating, contact us today at [email protected]. The more we partner and work together, the better we all are...TOGETHER!!

Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center VIRTUAL FOOD DRIVE is also available. This Virtual Food Drive will allow you to pick items here instead of going to a store, buying an item, and finding a drop off location. With just a few clicks, you can purchase the most-needed items and make a difference in the lives of our neighbors in need, right here in New London County. Once you select and pay, the items will then be purchased and delivered for you, directly to the Gemma E. Moran United Way/Labor Food Center! CLICK HERE for the link to the virtual food drive.
This event is a joint effort and proudly brought to you by GNACC, Bloomin’ Blinds; ERM Edwin R. Muenzner, CPA; Muenzner Payroll Solutions, Hall Communications; Surplus Unlimited, Full Power Radio Mystic Chamber, and the United Way/Labor Food Bank, Gemma E. Moran. #bettertogether
